Michael Dugher, the MP for Barnsley East covering Wombwell, Darfield, Grimethorpe and Hoyland, has been promoted to the role of Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office.

His new appointment follows Ed Miliband’s reshuffle of his frontbench team and means Mr Dugher will now be a full member of the Shadow Cabinet.

He will have responsibilities for policy areas including: public sector efficiency and reform; Civil Service issues; government transparency; civil contingencies; civil society; cyber security and UK statistics.

He will retain responsibility for political and campaign communications.

Before his latest appointment, Michael was the Shadow Minister without Portfolio. And since he was elected in 2010, he has also been the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition (May-October 2011) and Shadow Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology (October 2010-September 2011).

Mr Dugher said: “I am honoured to have been appointed to this new position. It is also a privilege to play my part in working to see a Labour government in 2015 and helping Ed Miliband into Number 10.”
