An MP is urging Doncaster’s young entrepreneurs to enter a national competition and help bring their business ideas to life.

Anyone currently studying at universities across the country – or who graduated within the past five years and have been trading for more than a year – is eligible to enter the 2014 Enterprise Awards, run by Lloyds Bank.

Ed Miliband, who represents Doncaster North, said: “There is a great deal of entrepreneurial talent in Doncaster. I’m keen to encourage students and graduates from the area to get involved in this competition and potentially secure vital resources for their fledging businesses.”

All entrants will be considered for three titles, Best Start-up, Best Digital, and Best Enterprise.

Applications are open until July 23 with the initial heats in September and final in October, and Tim Campbell, former Apprentice winner and founder of the Bright Ideas Trust, among the judges.

Thousands of pounds are up for grabs in each of the rounds, with the top prize £50k.

Last year’s Best Enterprise winner was BBOXX, a company which provides Africa and remote communities with solar-powered battery boxes.
