Rovers beat Blackpool 2-1 on Good Friday to follow up the win over Bradford City 11 days prior - only the third time this season they have followed up a victory in the league with another one.

And it moved them to 13th in the table with the cushion to the relegation zone a healthy nine points.

“Anyone who gets back-to-back wins in this league moves quickly up the table,” Ferguson told The Star.

“We’ve moved a couple of places up. We’d spoken about that with the results from the night before.

“We’re on 49 points now with eight games to go, five of which are at home.

“The importance of it, the back-to-back wins have been key to that.”

Tommy Rowe scored twice to earn Rovers the victory at Bloomfield Road.

And Ferguson praised Rovers for showing all sides of their game.

He said: “Blackpool are a well organised time. We weren’t sure what they would do so we worked on several things.

“They have quite a good record against us so it was about time we got a win.

“And I thought it was a fully deserved victory.

“We were outstanding in the first half on a poor pitch.

“The first 15 minutes of the second half we were terrible but we started passing again.”

Rovers host AFC Wimbledon on Monday with a chance to move into the top half of the table for the first time in two months.

“The home form has been good,” Ferguson said. “We have to make sure we go in with the same mentality as Friday.

“The players look fresh, they look good.

“It’ll be a tough game but a big motivation for us is the chance to get to 52 points with 21 left to play for.”

Ferguson confirmed Alex Kiwomya missed the Blackpool trip due to illness.
