A total of nine new trees are planned for sites throughout the village and more will be planted in the future when suitable sites are found.

The new trees include two commemorative oak trees to be planted either side of the Owston Ferry war memorial to honour those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars.

Councillor Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are passionate about our local nature reserves in North Lincolnshire and we have well over the national target of one hectare of designated reserve per 1,000 of the population.

“Not only are the reserves important for protecting biodiversity, but they are great places to escape to keep fit and active.”

Councillor David Rose, ward member for Axholme South, said: “It is fantastic to see these improvement works taking place at Owston Ferry with support from the Isle of Axholme and Hatfield Chase Landscape Partnership. Hopefully it will encourage even more people to visit Owston Ferry to enjoy the reserve and discover a piece of local hidden history.”
