Mistakes by Doncaster residents filling in applications for postal ballots for this year’s elections meant more than 1,300 had to be rejected.
Documents due to be presented to councillors today reveal 1,325 applications for postal votes had to be rejected because of mistakes or missing information on the voters’ statements attached to the forms.
Statements have to be filled in to confirm voters are who they say they are.
A total of 96,536 statements were submitted to the council.
However, 538 arrived blank with the signature and date of birth missing; 82 had the signature not matching those on official records; 353 had a problem with the date of birth not matching that on record; and 118 had both failing to match the official records.
Another 95 statements had the signature missing altogether, while another 68 were missing the required date of birth.
The report says the elections this year put unprecedented pressure on Doncaster Council staff, with 547 nominations to deal with, as elections were held for parliament, the borough council and parish councils around Doncaster.
