Families of three Misterton women, who lost their battles against cancer, have helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity in their memory.

Headed by Joy Johnson, 57, of Hillsyde Avenue, who herself has been battling with the disease, there has been a coffee morning, concert and Christmas market over the last few years all in aid of Cancer Research.

Joy, a mobile hairdresser, explained that the events were in memory of her sister in law Jayne Johnson, and friends Elaine Aston and Karen Hewitt, who had all lost their fight with various forms of cancer.

Last month Joy organised another Christmas market which raised £1,145, this takes the total fundraising figure to over £6,000.

Joy said: “It was lovely. We served bacon butties and hot dogs. Everything went down really well.

“There were some really very clever people there making some beautiful things.”
