Wizzard famously sang '˜I wish it could be Christmas every day' - and for one Rotherham family this wish has actually come true!

The Thornton family have had their Christmas tree up every day this year in the living room of their Treeton home.

Since January, they have decorated it with various quirky items to denote the different seasons and bank holidays held throughout the year.

They dangled chocolate eggs on it at Easter, draped buckets and spades over the branches in the summer time and even adapted it into a ‘scary tree’ for Halloween.

They decorated it in the more traditional festive baubles and tinsel for their official lights switch-on on December 1.

Parents Jessica and Scott decided on the festive venture to raise money for charity as two of their children suffer from a rare skin condition. Jasper, aged seven, and Phoenix-Rae, 11, both have Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare disorder which causes the skin to cut more easily than normal. The family has placed a special postbox outside their home where people can write letters to Father Christmas and make donations to the skin disorder charity Debra. They have so far raised about £150.

Jessica, a 34-year-old teacher, said: “We are known as the ‘Christmas loving family’ in the village and as we always put loads of decorations up so we thought we would do something for charity this year. We have had quite a lot of looks!”
