A man who was seriously injured in a chimney collapse died at the scene, police confirmed.

The 33-year-old man, thought to be a contractor working on a property in Beech Road, Doncaster, was trapped under a pile of rubble when a chimney stack collapsed.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called at about 11am on Saturday but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

South Yorkshire Police said the man was installing a new chimney stack when the accident happened.

The force has not yet identified the man.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, an air ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and a hazardous area response team.

One person was also taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary suffering with shock.

No-one else was thought to be seriously hurt.
