Man dies following taxi incident in early hours of morning

A MAN has died this morning after an incident involving a taxi in Doncaster.

Police closed off the A19 St George’s Bridge in the early hours of this morning as they began to investigate the fatal incident.

The man was a passenger in the taxi and sustained head injuries during the incident which happened after 2am today, police confirmed.

He was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary and died shortly afterwards.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They are in custody assisting police with inquiries.

All morning motorists have been caught up in traffic chaos as the road was shut off and drivers were urged to use the A1(M) to junction 36 and join the A630 Balby Road.

A police spokesman said: “The Force is aware this incident is causing significant delays in the surrounding area and officers would like to thank motorists for their patience during the morning rush hour. The road will remain closed as police continue to investigate the incident and further traffic updates will be provided by the Force.
