Man dies in crash on Sheffield road

A man has died after a car crash on a Sheffield road.

The 58-year-old from Doncaster was driving away from the city centre on Pitmoor Road on December 22 when it collided with another car.

Four other people were seriously injured.

At about 10.45pm a black Seat Leon and a red Volvo were involved in a collision in Pitsmoor Road, close to the junction of Pye Bank Road.

The driver of the Seat Leon, a 21-year-old man from Sheffield, was driving towards the city centre at the time of the collision. The driver of the Volvo, a 58-year-old man from Doncaster, was driving in the opposite direction.

The man driving the Volvo died in the collision. Two passengers travelling with him, a 57-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, suffered serious injuries during the incident and remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The young man driving the Seat Leon suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Northern General Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Two men, aged 19 and 20, who were passengers in the Seat Leon, suffered minor injuries in the collision. A third passenger, a 20-year-old man, suffered serious injuries. He currently remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw either of the vehicles before to contact police.
