Man dies after stabbing in Doncaster

A man stabbed in an attack in Doncaster has died.

The 26-year-old, who has not yet been named, was knifed at a house in Surrey Street, Balby, last month.

South Yorkshire Police revealed today that he died in hospital last night.

He suffered multiple stab wounds in the attack, for Jonathan Swift, 49, of Seaforth, Liverpool, has been charged with attempted murder and criminal damage.

Detectives and Crown Prosecution Service lawyers are now considering a murder charge.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "At around 6.15pm on Tuesday, November 15, emergency services were called to the property where the man was found with multiple stab wounds.

"He was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition until he died last night.

"A post-mortem examination will be carried out today and his family are receiving support."

Swift appeared at Doncaster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 17, where he was remanded in custody.

The police spokesman added: "Detectives will consult with the Crown Prosecution Service in due course in relation to the initial charge."
