Man arrested over death of pensioner killed in collision in Doncaster

A motorist has been arrested over the death of a Doncaster pensioner in a head-on collision in Doncaster.

South Yorkshire Police said a 72-year-old Conisbrough man died after his green Toyota Corolla and a white Vauxhall Corsa were involved in a head on smash with a black Audi A4 travelling in the opposite direction.

The collision on Doncaster Road, Mexborough, was reported to emergency services at 10.20am yesterday.

The driver of the Audi was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen and driving while unfit through drink and drugs.

Police said the pensioner who died was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the Corsa - a 41-year-old Mexborough man - escaped with slight injuries.

The Audi driver suffered abdominal injuries, a 34-year-old passenger suffered serious spinal injuries and another passenger, 18, was also injured.

Witnesses to the collision should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
