Man arrested for Doncaster stabbing after victim goes to GP surgery for help for facial wounds

A man has been arrested for a stabbing in a Doncaster village after his victim was taken to a doctors' surgery for help.

The man arrived bleeding heavily at the Grange Lane GP surgery in New Rossington just after 11am on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old man had suffered servere facial injuries and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

A 55-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of causing wounding with intent and remains in police custody.

One witness, who saw the injured man turn up at the practice, said: “It looked like there was a lot of blood.”

The man was given emergency medical help at the surgery before he was rushed to hospital.

The entrance to the Grange Lane surgery was cordoned off by police and blood spatters could be seen on the ground.

Neighbours said they were unaware of the incident until they heard a helicopter land nearby.

Looking out of the window they could see the surgery surrounded by police cars and vans.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “We didn’t know anything about it until we heard the helicopter. Then I looked out of the window and saw police all over the place. I heard it was a stabbing.”

Staff at the chemists next door to the surgery said they had been closed for part of the morning due to the incident but reopened later in the day.

A spokesman from South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called to a doctors surgery in Grange Lane, New Rossington at about 11.17am this morning after a man presented himself injured.

“The man is believed to have suffered a stab wound and has been taken to hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known but they are believed to be serious.”

A post on social media said: “Someone’s just been stabbed in the village, he’s at rosso doctors now, took himself there, stabbed apparently, blood all over.”

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said they received a call at 11.15am and attended an incident at Grange Lane, Rossington. A male patient was taken to hospital.

Police are appealing for information after the incident.

Detective Inspector Mark Monteiro, who is leading the investigation, said: “I understand incidents like this are disturbing to those living locally but we believe this was a targeted attack and I do not consider there to be any wider danger to members of the public.

“We have increased the number of officers in the area to reassure local residents.”
