A MAN has died in a flat blaze in Doncaster today.

Fire crews from Doncaster and Edlington were called to Callender Court in Middleham Road, Cantley, at 3.20am and had to force their way into the property.

The body of a man in his 40s was found by crews. A dog also died in the blaze.

A number of occupants of neighbouring flats had to be led to safety by firefighters. A woman was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for a precautionary check-up, the fire service said.

Fire investigators were today due to return to the flat complex off Goodison Boulevard to try and establish how the blaze started.

The dead man has not yet been named.
