Major works are set to begin on one of Doncaster’s busiest roads next week.

National Grid workmen will move onto Warmsworth Road on Monday for four weeks of essential maintenance work on a gas main under the road.

The work will take place in phases and there will be temporary traffic lights, lane closures and junction closures during the four-week period.

The work has been scheduled for the school summer holidays in an effort to reduce disruption to motorists using the A630.

National Grid network engineer Kevin Cleaver said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by our works.

“We need to upgrade some of the fittings on this stretch of pipe.

“We will make every effort to complete the work as soon as possible.

“We are liaising with Doncaster Borough Council to minimise inconvenience to the community and will be carrying out the work during the school summer holidays to reduce disruption to the road network.”

The work is set to take place in four, week-long phases.

In the first week, engineers will work in the A630 High Road, near the junction with the A1.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place to keep engineers and drivers safe, and keep traffic moving.

During phase two, the workmen will then move on to a location just south of the junction of the A630 Warmsworth Road and Warde Avenue. One outbound lane will be temporarily closed along this stretch while the work takes place.

In week three, work will take place within the junction of Warde Avenue and A630 Warmsworth Road. During this work the junction will be closed and there will be no access from Warde Avenue to the A630.

In the final week, work will take place near the junction of Greenfield Avenue and A630 Warmsworth Road. A lane closure will be in place along this inbound stretch while the work is under way.

Peter Dale, the council’s director of regeneration and environment, said: “We are working closely with National Grid to ensure all efforts are made to minimise disruption for road users and local residents during their essential maintenance works.

“The A630 Balby Road has benefitted from significant investment and a range of improvements in recent years as we continue to enhance the road network.”
