Thorne Road will be closed from January 27 to February 11 while work to replace the bridge near to Clay Lane and Sainsbury’s at Edenthorpe takes place.

Drivers have already suffered a number of closures and delays after engineering issues delayed the work which has been going on for more than 18 months.

The road will shut from 10am on January 27 and will re-open at 6am on February 11.

Works will be going 24 hours a day, seven days a week to enable the route to be re-opened as soon as possible.

During the project, no pedestrian or vehicle access will be available under the bridge and minibuses will be located on either side of the bridge to transport people from one side to the other via a number of diversions.

Sainsbury’s will remain open during the works.

A spokesman said: “We know it’s frustrating and hope this explains the delays. Please bear with us, it will be a big improvement once complete."

The works have been taking place on the stretch between Shaw Lane roundabout and the roundabout for the West Moor Link Road.

Once complete, the scheme aims to improve traffic flow from the A18 and West Moor Link into Doncaster.
