THE Highways Agency is advising drivers that there will be narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on the M18 near Doncaster from today to allow central reservation barrier works to take place.
The scheme involves replacing the steel central reservation barrier with a safer, concrete barrier, renewing manhole covers and surveying drainage between Waterton Bridge and junction 5. Work will be completed by the end of June.
This is the latest of several barrier schemes being delivered along the M18 since September last year to improve safety..
In order to reduce disruption to road users the latest scheme will ensure two lanes of traffic will be maintained during the day. A free recovery service will be in operation along this stretch of the M18, with CCTV monitoring ensuring that incidents and breakdowns can be cleared as quickly as possible.
During the work a 50mph speed limit will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and workers. The traffic management, including the reduced speed limit, will remain in place 24 hours a day.
In order to set up the traffic management the M18 will be closed between 10pm and 4am for two nights between junction four, Armthorpe, and junction five, the M180 turn off. The northbound carriageway will be closed on Wednesday, June 1, and the southbound carriageway will be closed overnight the following day.on Thursday 2 June. A further two closures will be required to remove the traffic management.
The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Wednesday, June 22, and the northbound will be closed overnight on June 23.
