Loving lurcher who suffered a '˜life of cruelty' needs a new home in South Yorkshire

Two-year-old Cedric was brought to the RSPCA Sheffield Animal Centre in October last year as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

Staff at the Attercliffe-based centre told how they love having the lurcher around, but it is time for him to find a caring new owner.

Adam Spencer, of the centre, said: “Cedric suffered a life of cruelty but now he can find a brand new life. He is amazing.

“He has come to the centre as part of a cruelty investigation and he is now free to search for a new home.

“Cedric has been so much fun to be around since he came to us and he loves a cuddle or two.

“He may never have lived in a home environment so he will need patience and understanding to ease into his new environment.”

He added: “Due to Cedric`s background he is unsuitable to live with any small, furry pets and will need to be muzzled when out walking but he is very used to wearing his muzzle and associates it with ‘walkies’ and so is happy with it on.

“Cedric is generally great around dogs and may be suitable to live with.

“However, due to his size and bouncy nature he enjoys playing with dogs of a similar size who he can charge around with.

“He hasn’t spent much time with children but due to his bouncy and exuberant personality, he is looking for a home with children aged 14 years and over who will understand his nature and needs and can participate in his training.

“This glorious boy is really looking forward to finding that special home so he can learn what it is to be loved and looked after and he will love you unconditionally in return. Could super Cedric be the dog for you?”

*Members of the public are being urged to enter an open art competition to help pay for the running of the centre.

The art can be in any form, such as a painting, drawing or sculpture, around the theme of wildlife.

It is open until Friday, September 9, and there are three categories:- 10 years and under, 11 to 17-year-olds and 18 years and over.

Entry fee for those aged 17 and under is £3, and for 18 years and over it is £5.

The overall winner will get the honour of being called ‘The Sheffield Animal Centre Artist of the Year’ and retain the trophy for a year. They will also get their name engraved on the trophy.

There will be trophies and prizes for all of the category winners.
