Louts spit at teens on Doncaster train

TWO women passengers were spat on by a group of louts on board a train in the Doncaster area.

British Transport Police has launched a hunt to find around 15 to 20 youths who were responsible for the assault which happened when the gang sat near their victims.

The women aged 19 and 20 from Wath, boarded the Leeds to Sheffield service at Swinton. The group aged between 15 and 19 also got on the train.

The women told the gang to leave them alone because they felt intimidated, leading to one teenager spitting in the face of one of the victims. Other gang members then joined in..

PC Ewan Brechin, investigating the incident said, “The victims felt intimidated due to the size of the group and them being very loud, and asked politely to be left alone. One youth then spat in the face of one of the victims. Shockingly, other members of the group then joined in spitting at them too.

“Both the victims got up and went to the driver’s door; approximately ten of the youths followed, surrounded and continued to spit on them. As the train arrived in Rotherham the group got off and spat at the females as they did so.”

Police are trawling trough CCTV footage taken in the area and on the train and are carrying out regular patrols.

One suspect is aged between 15 and 17, slim and mixed race. He was wearing a baseball cap.

The incident happened at around 9.35pm on April 8.
