Customers planning a trip to the flicks were left baffled when the cinema, part of the Valley Centertainment complex, posted to their Facebook page at 9.30am this morning that due to 'unforeseen circumstances' it would be closed for 'public health and safety reasons'.

No explanation was provided at the time but 40 minutes later the firm announced that the complex has re-opened and that a lighting fault was to blame.

This left many movie fans baffled, with hundreds taking to Twitter and Facebook to voice their dismay.

Nick Deal tweeted: "So it's open now or what? I'm so confused."

Laurie Faux tweeted: "What's happening with Sheffield? Booked tickets for Logan later but I've seen it's closed until further notice."

Sarah Lamb posted on Facebook: "I've just bought an unlimited card. And I was there last night so I'm a bit concerned about what the health and safety risk was now. They should be more specific."
