Kestrel flies to victory in Askern 10k

Barnsley's Daniel Kestrel (32 minutes 54 seconds) headed the 600-strong field in the 30th Sentry Doors Askern 10k road race.

Hallamshire’s Zak Mellard was third in a time of 33.24.

Rotherham’s Richard Harris (34.16), fifth overall, was the first vet-40.

Former overall winner Dave Tune (unattached) clocked 34.48 when taking the honours in the vet-45 race.

Doncaster’s Simon Wright successfully defended his vet-50 title when finishing ninth in a time of 34.55.

Rotherham’s Terry Eastwood (72nd in a time of 39.25) was the first vet-55.

Graham Hague (Steel City Striders) won the vet-65 race in a time of 44.25.

Askern’s Brian Watts (46.13) successfully defended his vet-70 title.

Club-mate Michael Pearson (32nd in a time of 37.11) was the first man home from the promoting club.

Wakefield’s Jenny Latham (24th overall in 36.18) won the women’s race with Hallamshire’s Zanthe Wray (38.46) finishing four places behind her in second place.

Doncaster-based Rotherham Harrier Jenny Blizard (37th overall in 37.25) won the vet-40 race.

Nicola Devine (75th overall in 39.37) was the first Doncaster Athletic Club finisher in the women’s race.
