PARKGATE-based children’s charity Safe@Last is planning its next BIG Sleepout - on October 21 this year.
Hundreds of supporters have been sponsored to sleep rough for one night, since the event started in 2007, and have raised cash to help the thousands of young runaways who live out on the streets.
This year the charity hopes to beat its total of 200 rough sleepers and aims to have more people than ever before taking part. For the first time the event has also been expanded across all four boroughs in South Yorkshire and BIG Sleepouts will be taking place in Doncaster, Barnsley and Sheffield too.
Operations Director Mark Smith said: “Like many charities we rely heavily on support from the communities around us to continue our work, and we really hope people will get behind these events again. They’re a bit different from the standard charity challenges, so we hope to have lots of interest to enable us to continue to support young people when they have nowhere else to turn.
“I will be taking part in the challenge again and hope many will choose to join me.”
