It's a clean sweep for Her Majesty in the Isle of Axholme

Isle of Axholme Lions took part with a clean sweep along the ‘greenway’ (the old railway line from High Street, Haxey to Low Burnham). They collected 24 black bags of rubbish, two tyres, two chairs, part of a TV, pushchair and a vacuum cleaner. There was also a group of Lions litter picking near Crowle.

The council supported this campaign and encouraged local people and community groups to rally together. A total of 16 community groups signed up to take part in the big clean-up.

They litter-picked in Belton, Scunthorpe, Messingham, Brigg, Worlaby, Bonby, Barton and Saxby – to name a few.

The campaign was launched by Country Life magazine in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy to clear up Britain in time for The Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016.

Coun Neil Poole, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The council already supports various clean-up initiatives but this was something quite spectacular as whole communities came together across the country to take part in what I believe to be the biggest clean-up of all time.

“We had 16 community groups taking part and we worked with other groups to get them involved. A fantastic weekend that highlighted the brilliant community spirit we have in North Lincolnshire.”

Brigg Rotary Club was also involved cleaning up the streets and river bank in Brigg and they collected over 50 large sacks of rubbish.
