Humberside Police’s Lifestyle project - which has inspired over 160,000 young people to make a difference in their community since 1988 - is set to launch on Saturday, May 7.
During the event Lifestyle 2016 registration will be officially launched encouraging thousands of 10-18 year olds to register as groups and undertake projects that benefit their local area, with the most innovative and successful rewarded with a host of prizes.
Up for grabs this year are: An Adventure Experience to South Africa, a Trip to France including MGM Studios and Disneyland Paris, Adventure Holiday to Wales, day trips to Flamingo Land, Go Ape, Track Days and more.
The launch event, at Hull's Princes Quay, will feature the premiere of the Lifestyle 2016 promotional video, the official unveiling of the new lifestyle t-shirts modelled by the Volunteer Youth Ambassadors and speeches Chief Constable Justine Curran, the elected Police and Crime Commissioner and some of the sponsors.
Humberside Police Chief Constable Justine Curran said: “I am proud of the Lifestyle project and the hard work undertaken by thousands of young people every year to make a difference in their community. I would encourage young people to sign up for Lifestyle 2016 and have a great time while making their neighbourhoods safer and nicer places to live.”

We encourage youngsters to use their spare time to make a real difference and Humberside Police Lifestyle certainly is an initiative that enables young people to get involved with worthwhile projects.”

The ethos of Lifestyle fits perfectly with this and provides another fantastic opportunity to ensure the next generation are equipped to lead healthy, happy lives.”
The Lifestyle project aims to increase the amount of positive contact between Humberside Police and young people, offering a refreshing and challenging alternative to summer boredom, which will benefit the youngsters and their communities.
The young people involved work together developing essential life-skills, gain in confidence and self-esteem, whilst making a difference in their neighbourhood with a host of amazing projects.
Last year’s top projects included:
• The Gauntlets Return (aged between 14 to 18) made a significant difference to the Ark Animal Rescue Centre, responding to support for funding and helping to secure its long term future for dogs requiring re-homing.
• The Brilliant Bikers (12 years old) spent the summer raising funds to purchase a specially adapted cycle for a disabled child, so that he could enjoy the benefits and fun that cycling has to offer. They also donated £200 to the All Ride charity in Bridlington to overhaul two cycles enabling more disabled people to get cycling in Bridlington.
• Awesome 4some (aged between 12 and 13) developed a ‘Magic bag’ packs included a DVD showing signing for 5 Nursery Rhymes, a booklet showing basic signs, prop toys and other resources to enable children of all abilities to communicate better through the use of sign language within Pre-schools, nurseries and primary schools.
Lifestyle 2016 is only possible through commercial sponsorship including BP, Houltons, ARCO, Andrew MARR, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Reckitt Benckiser, Patrick & Helena Frost Foundation, KCOM, Aunt Bessies, BAE, NHS Clinical Trust, East Riding Yorkshire Council, The National Grid, Cleveland Cars, Bridgetown Systems and JayJay Media.
The first 2,000 young people to register will receive a free Lifestyle 2016 t-shirts and each team will receive a project pack containing all of the information needed for a successful summer.
