Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust recently secured a funding award for Patient and Public Involvement in research from the Yorkshire and Humber Research Design Service. As part of this a team of midwives and researchers are asking for help in exploring a study into a different kind of pain relief for labour.

Heather Gallagher, operational matron for obstetrics and gynaecology at Scunthorpe hospital, is keen to engage and facilitate focus groups for women who are interested in exploring and advising on this study.

Women who are pregnant and those who have had a baby recently are welcome to become involved.

She said: “We need women who are willing to attend two short sessions at Scunthorpe hospital, to help midwives and researchers look at a different type of pain relief for women in labour. We need women’s honest views and opinions at the following two sessions:

Monday November 17, 1pm to 2.30pm

Thursday December 4, 10.30am to 12pm

“There will be free refreshments, small contributions towards travel fees and attendance for both sessions, and women can bring their children and babies.”

Anyone willing to take part must register their interest beforehand by calling Heather on (01742) 282282 ext 3402 or Dr Natasha Mitchell, Research Fellow at the University of York on (01904) 321655.
