Sarah and Matthew have both lived in the Isle, with Matthew still being a resident.

Sarah and Matthew both hopes to raise £1,000 by pedalling 85 miles through the roads of England all the way through scenic English countryside. They are trying to raise funds for the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, a charity who supports young people facing disadvantage.

Sarah who is also area manager of the northern regions the Trust operates in said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Dame Kelly Holmes Trust because my brother and I both recognise that we have had a supportive upbringing and many of the young people in our local communities do not have the same opportunities.

“We both love sport and the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust harnesses the ability of world class athletes to mentor young people facing disadvantage. As a child I idolised Kelly and to be able to support her charity is fantastic.”

Despite being cycling novices who have never owned road bikes of their own until recently, Sarah and Matthew are determined to take on the challenge.

Sarah adds: “Having a bike of my own has been a huge learning curve for both myself and Matthew: the first time that I went out on my bike, I ended up in a ditch which was a sorry sight. The training has been interesting and after biking to Skegness and both of us experiencing strong head wind we hope that Brighton is easier.

Matthew added “It’s great to think that we’ll be playing a part in raising funds to help young people unlock their potential and increase self-confidence.” Matthew has had experience in supporting young adults with autism and knows the challenges faced all to well by the trust.

Emma Atkins, chief executive at Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, said: “We are delighted that Sarah and Matthew are giving their time, energy and efforts to support Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity and passion of individuals like Sarah and Matthew to help us continue our vital work. Please back their fundraising efforts so that Dame Kelly Holmes Trust can continue supporting more people to reach their full potential.”
