Isle residents are being urged to become reserve firefighters to cover the area in the event of a strike by members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).
Humberside Fire & Rescue Service is looking for people to become Reserve Fire Crew (RFC) to ensure that the brigade can adequately respond to major incidents.
The FBU is embroiled in a pensions dispute with the Government and is balloting its members to ask if they feel industrial action is necessary. If the vote is passed, strikes could be held as soon as September 5.
The closing date for applications is tomorrow, Friday, August 9, to enable suitable applicants to undergo a selection process and be trained in basic fire fighting techniques ahead of any potential industrial action.
The service will be recruiting for a driver/pump operator and applicants must be Category C LGV qualified.
Also being recruited is a fire & rescue operative. Previous experience of using Respiratory Protection Equipment would be an advantage.
Pay is £10.27 per hour during any period of training and £20.52 per hour for operational deployment.
Volunteers will be contracted to work only when required. There will be no guarantee of future work – this is called a zero hours contract.
Applicants that are shortlisted will be required to attend an assessment on Monday, August 19, or Tuesday, August 20.
Successful candidates may be required to attend training from Friday, August 30, until Friday, September 6.
