A youth parliament which represents the Isle of Axholme will form part of the annual sitting of the UK Youth Parliament (YKYP) this weekend.
The Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for North Lincolnshire, Sam Proctor, will be heading to the University of Leeds today for the 13th annual sitting of the UKYP.
Sam, 13, said: “I am really looking forward to this weekend, it will be a great opportunity to meet up with other MYPs from around the country.
“It will be interesting to see Vince Cable and John Bercow speak.”
The annual event is to help with the preparations for a debate in the House of Commons later on in the year.
There will be 250 other members of the UKYP who will be welcomed by the Speaker of the House of Commons, RT Hon John Bercow MP, as well as Pam Warhurst CBE.
It will also feature a keynote speech from Vince Cable MP, secretary of state for business, innovation and skills.
Over three days, the MYPs will debate issues that affect young people, and take part in workshops and skill sessions.
They will also vote to decide which topics should be incorporated in the UKYP Manifesto.
Following the event MYPs will vote on what issues from the Manifesto will be put to a national ballot of young people aged 11 to 18-years-old across the UK to determine the UKYP’s priority campaign for 2014. The top five topics from the national ballot will then be debated at the House of Commons in November.
At the Commons sitting, one topic will be chosen to be the UKYP’s priority campaign.
