The Government have made the landmark deal legally binding on the main mobile networks: EE, o2, Three and Vodafone.

The funding binds the networks to increase call and text coverage to 90 per cent of the UK’s landmass, while data services will increase to 85 per cent.

Areas that already have coverage will have their signal strengthened to stop signal loss and call drops.

Mr Percy has been campaigning for improved coverage across the local area as part of his ‘Connect the Isle’ campaign and has met with mobile networks to discuss residents’ coverage problems.

The MP surveyed thousands of residents, and he will use the data to identify problem areas and lobby the networks about their investment plans.

He said: “It’s great news that the Government have secured a legally binding commitment of a large investment from the mobile networks.

“However, there’s still more work to do to ensure this money is spent improving coverage in our area. In the New Year I’ll be presenting the mobile networks with the data and problem spots identified in residents’ surveys and will demand action to improve coverage.

“I’ve already had some positive meetings with the networks, but I will continue to apply pressure to ensure residents get the improved coverage they deserve.”

“I’d like to thank residents for the huge response to my survey. I will continue my campaign until we get improvements.”
