Isle charity lends help to club

Epworth Netball members were thrilled to receive a cheque for £500 from Pride of the Isle committee representatives at a presentation.

Netballing ladies attended the ceremony wearing Pride of the Isle wrist bands to demonstrate mutual support.

The club was represented at the recent Brigg tournament in Scunthorpe, resulting in more silverware thanks to the efforts of the winning year four team.

Its cash donation will allow teams to have new netball shirts to wear in competitions during the upcoming season.

For those who might be interested in joining any of the Epworth Netball teams, High-5 junior netball training is to run again from September. Places are limited so anyone interested is advised to book beforehand.

Sessions for years three and four will be on Wednesdays from 3.45pm at South Axholme Academy

Years five and six will meet on Fridays, also from 3.45 at South Axholme Academy

Netball for school years seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, and for seniors continues through the summer on Mondays at Epworth Leisure Centre.

Crowle couple Jane and Peter Howden have raised £500 to replenish the Pride of the Isle charity coffers, by completing a Tough Mudder course and collecting sponsorship.

Chair of Pride of the Isle committee Leesa Sharpe said: “We were pleased to be able to help Epworth Netball members and are grateful for the wonderful efforts of Jane and Peter. The committee is very busy organising upcoming events and identifying where we can best give support.”

The next big event organised by Lex’s Legacy pride of the Isle will be the Lex Fest on September 3.

This free fun-for-all family event on Epworth Showground begins at 1pm, with multiple atractions for all ages.

One of the highlights of the day will be the It’s a Knockout competition, involving colourful teams of 10 from all around the Isle, pitting their skills in a variety of daft but strenuous games.

Other attractions will include fairground rides, bouncy castles, guest ‘characters, a variety of stalls and crafts, a licenced bar, tombola stall and games, and night-time entertainment.
