Isle businesses invited to apply for part of £3m support fund

North Lincolnshire Council on behalf of the Tata Steel Taskforce is launching a £3m support fund for business within the Tata Steel supply chain and other local businesses on Friday, March 4, to help with creating and safeguarding jobs.

Businesses are invited to the launch event at Glanford Park, Scunthorpe, and registration is at 9am for a 9.30am start.

After a presentation there will be one-to-one workshops from 10.30am to 3pm for businesses to find out what the funding can be used for and a chance to discuss what projects they would use the funding on.

The funding can be used for capital investments (no land or buildings), training, wage subsidies for disadvantaged workers, research and development.

There will be additional bespoke business support and advice, provided on three intensity levels: low, medium and high.

The level of support for your business will range from advice on how to improve your business through email to visits to your businesses with hands on support. This will depend on individual businesses and how much support they require.

The £3m provided by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills is available over the next two years.

Councillor Liz Redfern, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council and chair of the Tata Steel Taskforce, said: “This £3m support funding that we have secured from the government will create jobs and safeguard jobs for our businesses in North Lincolnshire. It will make a huge difference. We will offer advice throughout to ensure businesses make the most of the funding. This will be provided through bespoke support depending on each individual business’ needs.

“I’d encourage any business in the Tata Steel supply chain and businesses throughout North Lincolnshire to sign-up for a one-to-one workshop at the launch event to see how your business can benefit from the funding.

“We have a number of initiatives to support those businesses within the Tata Steel supply chain as well as all other businesses in North Lincolnshire. We’ve had the Local Steel Supply Chain Expo event that offered support to businesses to move into different markets.

“Local businesses in North Lincolnshire are vital in improving the economy, which is why we are securing a number of opportunities for them to develop. Supporting business in the Tata Steel supply chain is fundamental; however we are looking at the wider picture as well which includes other businesses in North Lincolnshire.”
