Investigations continue into Doncaster house blaze as road closed overnight
Investigations into a huge Doncaster property blaze are continuing this morning as one of the town’s busiest roads was closed overnight following the fire.
Crews were called out to the terrace of four adjoining houses in Balby Road yesterday afternoon after fire broke out in the roof of one of the houses, which overlook Westfield Park.
Flames from the blaze are understood to have spread across the roof void, causing damage to all of the properties within the block.
Part of the premises are understood to be converted into flats and bedsits.
No-one was injured in the blaze, which began at around 2.30pm yesterday.
Fire crews used an aerial platform to tackle the fire at the row of houses, near to Carr View Avenue.
The flames were extinguished late yesterday afternoon, but Balby Road remained closed overnight while police and fire crews carried out investigations and ensuring the building was safe.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 2.30pm yesterday afternoon to a house fire on Balby Road, Doncaster.
"Three fire crews attended from Doncaster, Edlington and Parkway stations along with an Ariel appliance.
“The fire was in the roof area and bathroom of the property. There are no reports of any casualties.
“Firefighters left the scene at 7:45pm.
“The investigation is taking place today to determine the cause of the fire.”
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that officers had been called in to assist with road closures at the height of the blaze.
