Imagination Library a huge success in the Isle

Within the Imagination Library, around 10,600 children receive a monthly book that encourages parents and carers to read to their children.

Dolly Parton created the project and it was first launched as a pilot in the Isle of Axholme in February 2013 and then across the rest of North Lincolnshire.

Currently 84 per cent of eligible children across North Lincolnshire are registered and improvements have been noted in children’s language and communication skills.

A total 92 per cent of children in the Isle of Axholme are registered for the Imagination Library. In 2015, 88.5 per cent of these children achieved the expected level of communication and language (compared to 83 per cent in the whole of North Lincolnshire) and 73 per cent achieved a good level of development overall.

Ofsted inspectors have commented on the positive impact of the Imagination Library on teaching and learning in their reports.

Library and children centre’s activity has increased and more children and families in the 30 per cent most vulnerable categories are accessing a wider range of services.
