Ilkeston FC chief confirms Doncaster Rovers bids for Jordan Wheatley

Ilkeston FC have confirmed Doncaster Rovers have made bids for teenage star Jordan Wheatley - but are yet to meet the Robins' valuation of the defender.

Wheatley has attracted the attention of a number of professional clubs this season, with amove to Brighton & Hove Albion having fallen through late in proceedings and Premier League Swansea City also believed to have been keen on the 17-year-old, a product of the well-renowned Ilkeston academy.

Doncaster are the next to have expressed their interest, with Rovers assistant manager Gavin Strachan having worked with Wheatley whilst head coach at Ilkeston earlier this season.

But Ilkeston have told the Advertiser that bids so far have been rejected, with other clubs also in the running for Wheatley’s signature.

Ilkeston have seen several of their young players progress to Football League clubs in recent years, including Che Adams (Sheffield United), Ashley Hunter and Akil Wright (Fleetwood), Lewis Walker (Derby) and most recently Rhys Dolan (Barnsley)
