Max first featured on the show when he was one of six contestants battling for a Masterchef apron early last month.

The sales administrator had gone to university to study fashion when he realised that 'cooking was the only thing that made him happy'.

He said: "Cooking has taken over my life and I realised that cooking was my dream.

"I'm in sales at the moment and I'm pretty bored. I would like to open my own restaurant and do tasting menus and let people try different things, where I'm from everyone is either steak and chips or fish and chips."

After winning through the first round, in the next he had to cook two courses in one hour and 15 minutes to impress guest judges Billy Wright, Jack Layer and Jane Devonshire, three finalists of the competition in 2016.

The long running reality show initially ran between 1990 and 2001 and was later revived in a different format from 2005 onwards.

The contest aims to find the UK’s best amateur cooks.
