Hospice refurbishment underway

The second phase of a major refurbishment project has started at a North Lincolnshire Hospice thanks to generous donations from residents.

Thanks to money donated as part of its ‘Sponsor a Patient Room’ campaign, which raised over £75,000, Lindsey Lodge Hospice has so far completely refurbished its six single bedded en-suite rooms.

And now thanks to further generous donations from a number of community groups and individuals it is now developing its four-bedded multi-occupancy accommodation.

Lindsey Lodge Hospice Director or Nursing and Patient Services Maureen Georgiou said the current refurbishments would see the two remaining tow-bed rooms modernised.

She added: “The response to our campaign last year was overwhelming, and meant we were able to completely modernise our single-bedded rooms with new furniture, bedding and soft furnishings, to make them less clinical-looking, more comfortable and better suited to our patients’ needs.

“This second phase covers our two remaining two-bedded rooms and includes the same high standard of cosmetic modernisation, but also involves a significant re-design of the layout, covering access to the bathrooms, as well as some building work to enhance privacy.

“The arrangement of these rooms has meant they have been under-utilised in the past, so this major development work will make Lindsey Lodge Hospice a fully-functioning 10-bedded unit, and will make a fantastic environment for people who visit us for symptom management or for those who prefer to some company rather than being in a single room.”

The refurbishment work is expected to take six weeks, and is being carried out by a team of local companies and contractors.

During the renovations Lindsey Lodge is still accepting referrals, for the six beds it has available.

Maureen said: “This has all been made possible due to the kind donations we’ve received from everyone who supported our campaign, and I’d like to pay tribute to them and look forward to inviting them to see the rooms when they’re finished.

“Our patients and staff have been fully involved in the planning of this project, and have already enjoyed seeing their ideas come to fruition. With high quality design and comfortable accommodation, we’re bringing all our patients modern, state-of-the art facilities, in a safe and reassuring environment.”
