Horsing around in Bawtry brought in the cash

Horsing around led to a massive charity success in Bawtry recently.

The fourth annual Polo Cup took place in the town, attracting a record attendance of 800 people.

The event generated its biggest amount so far for cancer charity Aurora Wellbeing Centres with a staggering £9,200 being raised in just a matter of hours thanks to the support of Robinsons of Bawtry and sponsors Green Eco Grants Ltd.

The charity knock-out polo event took place at the Vale of York Polo Club at Misson with eight teams sponsored by Bawtry businesses taking to the pitch to do battle as guests watched from the side lines with picnics or from the comfort of the Robinsons Champagne Marquee which had catering, live music playing all afternoon by the fabulous VIBE jazz band and a champagne and Peroni bar. Robinsons of Bawtry also organised a champagne raffle which raised £2,300 with the first prize of a champagne hamper being presented to Nick Bennett.

“Our teams gave it their all and the crowd really entered into the spirit of the day making it a truly memorable event,” said Rebecca Dickenson, chair Bawtry Retail Association and director of The Vanilla Rooms.

“And, I am particularly proud as my team, for which I played as patron for the second year running, finally managed to knock the undefeated winners the Crown Hotel from the podium and seize the winners’ cup with a 2-0 win!”

In addition to the excitement of the polo matches spectators battled it out to claim the Best Picnic Table sponsored by Debenhams which was won by the Bagley Family, China Rose of Bawtry sponsored the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gent who, by was Jamie Loftus.

And guests looked on in amazement as they were treated to an unexpected fly past by the Vulcan.
