Several customers were left recoiling in shock as the insect larvae was spotted wriggling its way out of a packet of ketchup at the fast food chain’s Valley Centertainment branch over the weekend.

The customer, who has declined to be named, captured the vile footage on video – and Burger King has now apologised.

She said: “There were live maggots in the ketchup packets and on the table.

The maggot (circled) crawled from a ketchup sachet at Burger King in Sheffield.

“The person behind us had them on their table as well.

“The woman behind the counter wasn't very helpful either – all she could say that it was from a supplier.”

A Burger King spokesman said: “Over the weekend we were alerted to an incident with a batch of Heinz Ketchup at our Centertainment restaurant.

“We take health and safety incredibly seriously and as such we alerted our suppliers immediately and we are working with them closely as they investigate this matter.

“This was an isolated incident and we'd like to apologise to the customer in question.”
