High-end bikes recalled

The Canadian company, whose bikes are famed for their high-performance attributes and lightweight construction, issued a statement recalling their ‘Badboy’ and ‘Badgirl’ hybrid bikes after receiving reports of cracks developing in the front forks which could lead to a broken axle.

The company advised customers who own bikes manufactured between 2010 and 2013: “Please do not ride your bicycle until the fork is inspected or replaced. Bicycles subject to recall can be confirmed by looking at the date code on the bottom of the fork leg.”

Affected bikes will be stamped with an ‘RK24’ serial number.

In a separate statement, Cannondale also recalled the £2,800 ‘Slate’ gravel bike.

The Slate caused a storm when it was released due to it’s innovative single fork configuration, but the firm has issued a notice recalling 2016 examples of the bike after receiving reports of a problem with the tyre bead.

The statement read: “If the inner tube is removed from the rim, the tire bead may not seat properly in the rim and the tire could come off the rim, which could lead to an accident and risk of injury.”

The company are at pains to point out that if no modification is attempted, the bike is safe to ride. It advised any customers who have attempted to modify the bike to run ‘tubeless’ to Immediately stop riding.

“Stop riding, convert your Slate back to using inner tubes, and visit your Cannondale dealer to receive a free set of replacement wheels with upgraded rims that will ensure maximum performance and safety when riding tubeless,” advised a company spokesperson.
