HGV, combine harvester and trailer destroyed in Isle blaze

Emergency services were rushed out to a farm in the Isle in the early hours of Saturday morning to deal with a fire which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Two appliances from Epworth and one from Crowle were called at 4.38am to an address off the A161 at Low Burnham between Epworth and Haxey.

Involved was a Dutch barn, measuring 10m x 30m, which contained a combine harvester, a HGV lorry and a trailer.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue services said that officers used two lots of breathing apparatus, two main jets, two hose reels, beaters and hay drags to deal with the blaze.

A PPV fan was also used for ventilation purposes.

They added: “Good progress was made by 5.30am and the fire investigation officer was notified and police were requested.

“We had to return to the scene a little later for a slight reignition.”

Humberside Police confirmed that an unknown person had started the fire but no-one was injured and enquiries are underway.
