Readers from all over town have reported seeing moving lights sweeping across the night skies over the weekend.

But don't worry, there’s no alien invasion or anything more sinister, it's just Yorkshire Wildlife Park preparing for its winter illuminations event, which will take place throughout December and early January.

Last week’s sightings were staff testing out the equipment and preparing for the event which runs until January 15.

A spokesman said: “This not-to-be-missed event will be the biggest lantern display in Yorkshire this year.

"Featuring over 2,400 metres of illuminated trails filled with awe inspiring giant lanterns themed as animals, mystical creatures, Jurassic dinosaurs and more, this shimmering spectacle promises an experience unlike anything seen before.

“Children and adults will be absorbed in a kaleidoscope of colour amongst the magical sculptures, and tunnels of light, with delicious festive food and drink and more, making our Winter Illuminations a family experience to remember.”

With over one and half miles of lit pathways, with capacity controls and timed entry, park bosses are putting safety first to ensure this is an experience the whole family can enjoy.

Bosses have even had to put out a ‘Notice To Airmen’ announcement, warning pilots and aircraft in the area to be aware of the laser light show.
