Help! Six of our Doncaster Vulcans are missing!

The aircraft, used as a floral display, were stationed on the A18 roundabout at Tudworth between Thorne and Hatfield and acted as a gateway into Doncaster for motorists.

But the model planes - mirroring the shape of the world's last flying Vulcan bomber which is based at Robin Hood - have now taken flight and landed in another part of the town.

The six planes are now situated on Great Yorkshire Way - the newly opened FARRRS link road between the M18 and the airport which was opened to drivers for the first time yesterday.

Their departure was noted yesterday morning by eagle-eyed Muriel Lewis who lives in Hatfield Woodhouse.

She said: "We have been driving past them for years, then over the weekend, we suddenly noticed they had gone.

"I wasn't sure if they had been taken away for repair or had been stolen. They are a good local landmark so we noticed instantly that they had gone."

Doncaster Council has confirmed the departure of the planes and a spokesman said the new road was a more fitting place for the Vulcans to go on show as travellers make their way to and from the airport.
