Can you kick the habit on No Smoking Day?

Doncaster’s Stop Smoking Team are gearing up to celebrate the 31st National No Smoking Day with the message that help is at hand for people wanting to kick the habit.

This year’s National No Smoking Day takes place on March 12 and each year thousands of smokers choose this day to quit. This year’s national theme for the day is V for Victory - Quitting is not a solo mission.

Worldwide over 10 million people still smoke and around 100,000 people die each year from smoking related causes.

In Doncaster last year 1243 people quit - 103 of these were pregnant women - with the help of staff from Doncaster’s Stop Smoking Service.

This year the team, who are part of Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH), will be out and about promoting the support on offer to help smokers to quit.

They will be at Eatons Cooper Lighting and Safety, a manufacturing company on Wheatley Hall Road who on March 12 will be making their site totally smoke free and encouraging their staff who smoke to stop.

The team will also be at the Women’s Hospital, at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and in the antenatal clinic at Mexborough Montagu during the week starting March 10 to promote quitting smoking.

Amanda Capper, Doncaster Stop Smoking Manager, said: “Smokers are four times more likely to stop smoking with the help of a health professional. There are a wide range of products that can help smokers deal with withdrawal symptoms and our advisors can help them decide on the one that fits in with their lifestyle. Smokers will find that their health will start to improve very quickly when they stub out their final cigarette.”

Anyone wanting support can contact the Doncaster Stop Smoking Service by ringing 01302 640064 or by calling in to East Laith Gate House, East Laith Gate, Doncaster.
