A Doncaster charity that has raised £486,000 in almost five years is appealing to everyone to help get them to the half million pounds mark for its anniversary.

Team Verrico has launched a campaign to reach its £500,000 target by November 19, the date that Anna Verrico died in 2013 .

The charity was formed  when Epworth mum of two Anna was 35, and diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.

Sadly, despite some hope when she was in remission , Anna died after a year, leaving husband Paul and two tiny children behind.

But Team Verrico, founded by Paul, has grown in strength, to help over 70 families, funding over 750 counselling sessions and eight research grants, and assisting those undergoing treatment by providing 183 travel support packages and 136 hotel rooms.

The rallying call went out in a blog from Paul, on the Team Verrico website and across social media, for people to make a concerted effort and pour in money of any amount to the charity during the next few weeks.

Paul said: " I would really, really like us to be able to hit the magic half a million mark by the time we hit the fifth anniversary.

" If you can enter the Anna Verrico half marathon and fun run on October 21 and raise funds that way, please do.

'If you can host a coffee morning, ask your work to hold a dress down day, do an event or come up with any  other way to help us, now is the time.

"We have six weeks to raise £14k. It's a stretch target, but it's doable.

'I'm doing my bit '“ Venice Marathon is  at the end of October along with some  half marathons in between '“ but please sound the clarion call as we set out to remember Anna on this anniversary date."

Paul added: 'A small band of friends determined to act as a vector for good people, through funding and generosity we have been able to help others and we are proud of what we have achieved.

'There are people still living  on this planet who would not be here but for Team Verrico intervention. We have achieved this through you.'

Most recently, Team Verrico has been chosen by Lakeside Village customers and staff to be their charity of the year for 2018, following a public vote online.

Paul said: "The charity is excited to be partnering in this alliance which will increase visibility of our service, and hopefully help some of those who use the centre to achieve more tomorrows when suffering a cancer diagnosis."
