Heartbreak as body of dead dog pulled from Doncaster canal by rescuer

A group dedicated to finding lost pets in Doncaster has spoken of its heartbreak after the body of a missing dog was pulled out of a canal.

The small, female dog was pulled from the River Don navigation canal close to Long Sandall Lock on Clay Lane West yesterday, a spokesman for Lost and Found Pets in Doncaster Team Houdini said on Facebook.

Describing the tragedy, a spokesman said: “Sadly today we have retrieved the body of a deceased small female dog from the canal close to the lock at Kirk Sandall.

"I have the collar so the owner can identify it, as it wasn’t chipped when I scanned it.

"She is now at Arundells/Vets Now in Kirk Sandall. Thank you Stewart Lee for getting her out of the water. Not a pleasant task.

A frayed pink and black collar, adorned with the word Doodlebone, accompanied the heartbreaking post.
