The discharge lounge at Scunthorpe General Hospital is extending its opening hours from today.
The service, which previously ran from 10am to 6pm will now be opening from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.
Patients move to the discharge lounge when they are fit and well and ready to leave the ward but may still be waiting for a prescription from the pharmacy or transport to get home. It is staffed by nurses and healthcare assistants.
Collette Cunningham, general manager for unplanned care, said: “By extending our opening hours we hope to facilitate a more timely departure from hospital for those people who have been staying as an inpatient. It should also ease the pressure on wards by freeing up bed space during the busy forthcoming winter months.”
