Couples in Doncaster are being offered professional therapy to help combat problems caused by one partner’s drug or alcohol issues.
The idea is for partners or close relatives to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide ongoing support at home around the clock and make a positive difference to their recovery.
RDaSH Service Manager Paula Brocklesby said: “It is common for a worried partner or relative to have some resentment about their partner’s or relative’s past drug or alcohol abuse, and to be fearful and distrustful about the possible return of the problematic behaviour in the future.
“The atmosphere of distrust and conflict can often lead to arguments and may trigger a relapse.
“Behavioural Couples Therapy (BCT) helps the couple plan for continuing recovery to prevent or minimise relapse.”
BCT is provided by Doncaster Substance Misuse Services at Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
