Doncaster’s community matrons team and support staff have been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards.
The community matrons have been shortlisted as finalists in the General Practice Awards for ‘Clinical Team of the Year – Long Term Conditions’ and ‘Nursing Team’.
The team consists of Mags Dowie, Maggie Gallagher, and healthcare assistants from the Integrated Community Care Pathway, who worked on a service improvement project Mags conducted as part of her Masters in Medical Science.
The project aims to improve medication adherence, reduce hospitalisation and reduce medicines waste in patients with long term conditions.
It sees community matrons and district nurses taking on additional tasks.
Lesley Morris, assistant director for long term conditions at RDaSH, said: “We’re thrilled about the two nominations.
“It’s well deserved recognition for a team of people who are exceptionally dedicated.”
Mags Dowie, the community matron, said: “The teamwork on the improvement project was fantastic and this nomination reflects the effort that went into it.
“We’re all now looking forward to the awards ceremony in November.”
The results of the awards will be announced at a black-tie dinner in London in November.
