THE campaign to save the Leeds General Infirmary children’s heart unit remains strong despite a recent court ruling.
The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund was disappointed by the High Court decision to throw out a judicial review brought by Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, after hearing it would not be included in options put forward to the Safe and Sustainable review of children’s heart surgery provision in the UK.
Leeds, that serves hundreds of Dearne families, is one unit under threat of closure.
Sir Roger Boyle, former national director for heart disease and stroke, said: “I am very pleased that three Court of Appeal judges have found the Safe and Sustainable process for the public consultation to be fair, lawful and proper. This is a landmark judgment.” The committee will make a final decision at a meeting in public on July 4.
