Isle MP Andrew Percy has welcomed figures that reveal over 2000 free swimming sessions were provided at Epworth Swimming Pool during August.
The free swimming scheme used by young people across the Isle is funded by a special grant pot created by Coun Liz Redfern.
Mr Percy said: “Even though finances are tight, it is great to see what councils can achieve if they prioritise their budgets on initiatives that really benefit residents. I have worked closely with Liz on this scheme and on the campaign to improve spending on activities for young people throughout the Isle.
“These free swimming sessions are evidence of how important it is to vary the activities on offer to attract more young people.”
Coun Liz Redfern said: “The free swimming scheme has been a great success for our young people across the Isle. Listening to young people has informed our decision to increase the amount of money available to spend on activities.
“It is right that we are able to offer a range of activities for our children locally, particularly throughout the summer. The fact that over 2000 swimming sessions were enjoyed proves just how important free swimming is.”
